Northern Ireland U21s manager Ian Baraclough led his side to runners-up spot in UEFA European Championship qualification group 2, following a 1-0 home win over Slovakia on Tuesday evening in Belfast.

The result, which meant Baraclough’s men leap-frogged their opponents, left Northern Ireland as the sixth-best runner-up in the competition, just two points behind the teams that qualified for the play-offs.

Baraclough is currently in negotiations over a new contract following a remarkable campaign, which saw his side seeded in the bottom group, yet win six and draw two of their ten qualifying matches, including a famous 2-1 away to group winners, Spain.
