If you’ve ever wondered what a football manager’s job interview is like, then wonder no more.

BBC Sport journalist Tom Rostance spoke to a number of people from the world of football, including Oporto clients Michael Johnson and former Hull City chief executive Nick Thompson (pictured), to gain their insight in to the process.

An extract from the piece sees Thompson offer the following observation: “The starting point is: are you looking for a manager to come into a philosophy you already have at the club, a style of play, a recruitment strategy, or are you looking to appoint someone to develop their own strategy? The answer to that question may lead you to a very different candidate.”
