Oporto Sports is delighted to announce that we will be working with Nigel Pearson, the current manager of Belgian First Division B side, OH Leuven.

The partnership will see Oporto become Pearson’s official publicists.

The talismanic former defender enjoyed a successful playing career beginning with Heanor Town, before reaching the Football League with Shrewsbury Town, Sheffield Wednesday, where he won the League Cup in 1991 and Middlesbrough.

Since retiring as a player, Pearson has achieved the UEFA FA Pro Licence qualification, the highest professional coaching qualification in the game, and has worked as a coach, assistant manager, caretaker manager and manager at a variety of clubs, as well as working with the England under-21s.

He is perhaps best known for his two spells at Leicester City; where he won the League One and Championship titles, achieved the best statistical escape from relegation in Premier League history and helped to build the squad which ultimately went on to win the Premier League title a year after his departure from the club.

Speaking about the announcement, Oporto communications director Dean Eldredge, who acted as press officer to Pearson at Leicester in 2009, said:

“Nigel has played an integral role in some of the most remarkable stories in recent football history; from his iconic spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough as a courageous captain and defender, to Jimmy Glass’ injury-time goal to keep Carlisle United in the league, through to the fairytale of Leicester, he is a proven and driven winner with an extensive knowledge of the game.

“We are very proud to be working with Nigel once more. He commands a great deal of respect in the game and we look forward to supporting him in his future work.”
