Oporto Sports is delighted to announce that we will be representing Chris Hogg, the former MK Dons, Oxford United, Bristol City and Norwich City assistant head coach.
Chris began his coaching career in Suffolk with Ipswich Town, working with the club’s U18s and U23s sides, as well as holding roles including the club’s player loans manager, and then first-team coach and interim assistant manager.
In 2020, he joined Newcastle United, working as their U23s manager, before accepting a role as Liam Manning’s assistant at then-League One club, MK Dons, in 2021. The duo reached the play-off semi-finals after narrowly missing out on automatic promotion on the final day. Hogg went with Manning to Oxford United in 2023 and after keeping the club safe from relegation, they enjoyed a great start to the season in League One and were rewarded with a move to Bristol City, where they reached the Championship play-offs in 2025. His most recent role was again in the Championship, at Norwich City.
Before coaching, Chris captained England U15s while with York City, before signing for Ipswich Town. He then moved north of the border and made over 170 appearances for Hibernian, winning the Scottish League Cup in 2007, the club’s player of the year award in 2008, and went on to captain the side.
As well as having played for England U15s, he represented his country as a player at U17s, U18s, U19s and U20s level.
Speaking about the announcement, Oporto director Dean Eldredge said: “Chris is a hugely intelligent and impressive individual. He is regarded highly as a talented coach and player developer, but throughout his playing and coaching career he has also displayed exemplary leadership skills.
“We believe that Chris is ready to make the next step as a head coach or manager. He has the personality to inspire a group of players, and has worked as part of successful teams and staff throughout his career, forming a special partnership with Liam Manning through their time with MK Dons, Oxford United and Bristol City.
“Chris has demonstrated the necessary requirements to be a modern head coach, but also possesses the characteristics of a manager, with strong people skills, communication and emphasis on building a professional culture throughout a club. In all of our conversations with people in the game about Chris, the overwhelming response was that he was someone with great potential and a high ceiling. We look forward to supporting him on this exciting next step of his journey.”
