Oporto Sports is delighted to have completed an agreement with Charlton Athletic Football Club for our client, Michael Appleton, to become the club’s head coach.
Appleton’s extensive coaching experience has seen him work in various roles at West Bromwich Albion, including assistant manager and caretaker manager, before his first permanent management roles at Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers.
He achieved great success with Oxford United, winning automatic promotion to League 1, reaching two EFL Trophy finals and achieving seven wins over Premier League and Championship opposition in cup ties.
Appleton was then named assistant manager of Premier League Leicester City, also winning both of his games as caretaker manager of the club, before a brief return to West Brom, and then a run to the League 1 play-off final with Lincoln City, as well as reaching the EFL Trophy semi-finals, prior to a second spell at Blackpool in the Championship last season.
Michael’s first game in charge will be on Saturday 16 September, against fellow Oporto client, Steve Evans, as Stevenage play Charlton Athletic at the Lamex Stadium, kick-off 3pm.
Oporto Sports would also like to thank James Rodwell and the board at Charlton Athletic, and The LMA for their cooperation on this agreement.
