Michael Appleton statement on George Baldock

Oporto Sports client and former Oxford United head coach Michael Appleton has released a statement following the announcement of the death of former Oxford United player, George Baldock, at the age of 31…

“I was saddened to learn last night of the passing of George Baldock.

“I signed George on loan twice, during my time at Oxford United, and the spells he had for me and for the club were magnificent.

“I will always think of him, and that group of players, and will regard it as an incredibly special time in my life, and George played an immeasurable part in the success we shared.

“He was a great kid; intelligent, a true professional, and very unassuming given his ability on the pitch. He has a young family, and my thoughts at this time are with them. I feel for them, and for his parents and his older brother, Sam.

“You will be missed, George, and I and so many other people will remember you for your impact on the field, but more importantly for the person you were.”
