Michael Flynn set for BBC One FA Cup appearance

Oporto Sports PR client Michael Flynn will be a guest for BBC One’s live coverage of The FA Cup 4th round tie between Newport County and Manchester United, this Sunday, on air from 4pm.

Michael will be pitchside for interviews with Kelly Somers, with studio coverage coming from presenter Gary Lineker and guests Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, as Michael’s former club hope for a giant-killing.

Flynn kept Newport in League 2 in 2017 with a great escape, after taking over with the club 11 points adrift of safety in March. He managed 250 games for the club, with a 40% win rate, reaching the 2018/19 and 2020/21 League 2 play-off finals, losing in extra-time.

During his time in the dugout, Flynn guided Newport to FA Cup wins over Leicester City, Leeds United and Middlesbrough, took Tottenham Hotspur to a replay and lost on penalties to Brighton & Hove Albion. The wins over Leicester and Middlesbrough earned them a home tie with Premier League Champions Manchester City, with two late goals securing a 4-1 win for City. He also reached the EFL Trophy semi-final in 2020, and had success in the League Cup knocking Watford out, and also taking Southampton to penalties.

Since leaving Newport in 2021, Flynn has managed Walsall and Swindon Town, leaving the latter earlier this month.
